Golden Hour is a community app for golden retriever owners. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it. The short version: we collect what the app needs to work, we never sell your data, and we don’t run ads or tracking.
What we collect
- Your account: your email address, a password (stored only in scrambled, hashed form), and the name you choose to show other members.
- Your pups: the profile you create for each dog: name, age, how they look, personality traits, favorite thing, and a photo if you add one.
- What you share: questions, replies, “paws”, meetups you host, RSVPs, park ratings, and reports you file.
- Park check-ins: when you tap “I’m here now”, we record which park, which pup, and the time.
- Lost golden alerts: if you report a lost dog, the last-seen spot and notes you choose to share. If someone reports a sighting, the note and location they choose to send.
- Notifications: a push token for your phone, so we can send the alerts you’ve turned on.
- Waitlist: if you join the waitlist in the app or on our website, or email us for an invite, the details you give us (such as your email, name, dog’s name, city or ZIP code).
Your location
If you allow it, the app uses your phone’s location to sort parks by distance and to check that you’re actually at a park before you check in. That happens on your phone. We don’t store your GPS location. A check-in records only the park, not where you were. There are two exceptions, and both happen only when you choose them:
- If you turn on lost golden alerts, we store your rough area, rounded to about a 7-mile square, so we can alert you about dogs lost nearby. Turning alerts off erases it.
- If you report a lost dog or a sighting using “where I am now”, that spot is shared with members so they can help.
You can turn location off at any time in your iPhone’s Settings and the app keeps working, just without distances.
Who can see what
Golden Hour is a community, so most of what you share is visible to other signed-in members: your display name, your pups’ profiles and photos, your posts and replies, meetups you host and attend, and your park ratings. Live check-ins are visible to members for 90 minutes and then expire. Your email address is never shown to other members.
How we use it
- To run the app: show your profile, meetups, parks and posts.
- To send account emails such as sign-up confirmation and password resets.
- To keep the community safe: review reports and remove content or accounts that break our terms.
- To invite you from the waitlist.
We don’t sell or rent your information, we don’t show ads, and we don’t use third-party analytics or advertising trackers.
Services we rely on
We use a small number of providers who process data on our behalf, only to run Golden Hour:
- Supabase: hosts our database, sign-in and photo storage.
- Resend: delivers account emails.
- Apple: distributes the app through the App Store and TestFlight.
- Expo: relays push notifications to your phone.
- Open-Meteo: provides weather for park heat warnings. Only a park’s map location is sent, nothing about you.
Deleting your data
You can delete your account at any time in the app: tap Account on the Home screen, then Delete my account. That permanently removes your account, your pups, photos, posts, replies, meetups, RSVPs, ratings and check-ins. To be removed from the waitlist, email us at the address below.
Children
Golden Hour is not meant for children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect information from them. If you think a child has signed up, contact us and we’ll remove the account.
Changes
If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we’ll update the date above and let members know in the app.
